Sacred Space is a joint initiative between MAYC, the Children's department and the Iona Community. It is a weekend retreat for anyone working with children or young people.
Last year's retreat was about having a sacred space and time to reflect upon our lives, relationships with others and God. It was also a time to learn about ourselves recognising our learning styles, capacity and responsibilities. There were moments of quiet and stillness, wrestling of minds, creativity and fun, as Helen O'Donnell from the Iona Community took people on a journey.
Sacred Space was workshop based with a combination of imagery, theory, discussion and art, making a mandala and using clay. This time to journey enabled people to meet with God and there was no doubt that God's spirit was working deeply and powerfully in peoples' lives.
Comments from a Youth Leader who attended Scared Space 2.
As a busy Mum of three and a church youth leader it was great to be on the receiving end for a change, of other people's planning and hard work. Not only that, Whirlow Grange was the perfect setting for a retreat, away from all the hustle and bustle of everyday pressures; the beautiful house; the tranquility of the gardens and the superb food.
