thirst for life is a positive campaign challenging the UK to go alcohol free for 40 days from 1st March 2006. It has been triggered by the media frenzy around the detrimental effects arising from our nation’s drinking habits. thirst for life is aimed at all ages but alcohol abuse is a particularly important issue amongst young people.
Up to 1.3milion children suffer due to parental drinking
40% of 13-14 year olds that lose their virginity, do so under the influence of alcohol
4,809 under 18s were admitted into hospital due to alcohol abuse in the last year
thirst for life is an accessible tool for youth workers to start debate and discussion in schools, church groups and youth events. The campaign gives young people an opportunity to assess why people drink and through this campaign the chance to speak out against the binge drinking culture.
The campaign is open to people from all backgrounds regardless of whether they drink alcohol or not and is being spearheaded by the church in the UK.
There are a variety of resources available, including tags and badges to enable people to demonstrate their involvement.
· Campaigner packs contain information packs, 4 tags, badges and stickers. These packs encourage applicants to get three friends to join up and hopefully foster a sense of ownership.
· Educational group packs are available for use in schools, youth groups, churches, cell groups etc with seminars, assemblies, worksheets, posters, information sheets, drama, tags, badges and presentation material on a DVD.
Both of these resource packs can be ordered online here.

We have received a lot of support for the campaign so far - check out a couple of our commendations.
"Thirst for Life is a great opportunity for Christians to take an informed
stand against the damaging effects of alcohol abuse. This campaign marks a
time of realisation that the Christian faith can and should have a
positive social impact on both the local and national level."

"Earlier today, my 19-year-old friend told me that she'd been "bladdered" last night, she'd fallen unconscious after drinking countless vodka-mixers, and had collapsed on the dance floor of a club. As if to prove it she showed me her bruises. I'm 100% behind the Thirst for Life campaign for one very simple reason - regular binge-drinking is destroying my friend's life, and her generation. Do something about it. Start by stopping drinking alcohol for 40 days."
