Check out 'Oneword' - a success story...

Oneword is one of the most exciting and innovative worship events happening in the country right now. It started in a small Methodist Circuit in Batley, West Yorkshire, as a means of meeting the needs of local young people, and although it still takes place in the Central Methodist Church there, young people travel from much further afield to experience the worship. As the name suggests, a oneword event is always based around one word, often a "teaser" which will get people guessing the direction that the service and the teaching may take. For example, previous words have been "idol", "hungry", "illumin8" and "naked". The songs, sketches, multi-media content, dance, talk, and any other elements all link in with the theme, and the teaching always revolves around a very simple biblical message. Music plays an important part in oneword.

Our musical director is Andy Wright, who's involvement with music in the Methodist Church goes back to when he led the MAYC Orchestra and then went on to Chair their Management board. Andy is very excited to be involved in oneword: "When Andy [Stead] talked to me about his vision to have a regular worship event aimed at the 13 to 25 age group, to involve the latest technology and modern music I was keen to be on board. The passion for teaching God's truth has just blown me away, and I wish that more young people could experience what God is doing through oneword. I've worked hard with the singers and musicians to get as professional a performance as possible, whilst still recognising that as a worship event it is not a concert, but simply a sharing of praise for and with young people."

Technology also plays an important part in a oneword event. We have lighting and visual experts on the team and use them and the equipment to make every event a memorable one. Everything about oneword is geared towards making young people feel comfortable and able to meet with their God in a relaxed and non-threatening environment.
