You are What you eat was the thought-provoking title of Youth Conference 2006 which was held in Norwich from the 17-19 of November. Around 200 young people attended, sharing business sessions and Christian fellowship together. Our worship band played many popular songs throughout our weekend together, ranging from the more recent to the good old Wesleyan hymns.
This year’s theme was ‘You are what you eat’, illustrating that daily study and intake of Jesus leads to him shining through us. This theory could be proven just by seeing this year’s delegates to MYC, a weekend dedicated to young people sharing their love of Jesus and doing his work.
Some of the resolutions passed over the weekend were;
The Review – MYC noted that two years ago they voted for an external body to conduct a review on the way that the Exec and MYC work. In this, we saw that change is needed for the Methodist Church to gain and keep its young people. Youth Conference endorsed the Youth Exec’s proposal for a youth participation strategy. Climate Change Action – This called for a guidance policy for carbon usage, which would be available for use at all Methodist events.
Peacemaking: A Christian Vocation – We all agreed not to support the government replacing the Trident weapons. MYC voted to actively oppose Trident replacement.
Jesus said ‘I am the bread of life’ (John6:35), so we as the Youth of the Methodist Church challenge YOU to fill up your belly and let Jesus be your glucose this year!
