So we’ve just got back from Methodist Conference in Edinburgh and it was a lot more fun than we thought it would be! It was full of enthusiastic people, who listened, shared, had a laugh and put a lot of effort into trying to make the right decision.
What is Methodist Conference?
Methodist Conference is the governing body of the Methodist Church. The majority of things that happen in the Church have to be passed by Conference before they can happen, for example ‘Pray Without Ceasing’ and funding for Breakout. It also overseas how the Connexional team works and establishes where the Church stands on issues such as Nestle and Homosexuality.
How does Youth Conference relate to Methodist Conference?
Youth Conference can take any resolution it likes to be debated at Methodist Conference, we also send 4 representatives.
What resolutions did we take this year?
- MYC reps and publicity – we reminded everyone that each district needed to send up to two people to MYC
- Interfaith Prayer – We asked conference to dedicate February as a month of prayer for improved interfaith relationships, and they said YES!
- Orchestra and Singers – We asked that funding did not stop until other plans were in place, this was referred to Methodist Council
- Revival – We wanted the next connexional year to be dedicated a year of praying for revival, and conference said YES!
- Conference also agreed to suspend our standing orders for a further year.
Our MYC delegates did us proud!
