World Action, which was located in the Winter Garden’s Pavilion, created an island called Cocapina. The premise of Cocapina was that a number of people had been stranded there and until such time as they were rescued; they had to be self-sufficient and seek to live a more sustainable life. The inhabitants sought to do this by recycling fruits to make exciting cocktails which were made by  Fruitamazin, who used recycled materials to create inspiring artwork at Transformative Art; they recycled oil drums to create melodic music in Pantastic and recycled bin bags to make clothes at Bintastic Creations and a fashion show. World Action had a lot of fun at Breakout as it demonstrated the importance of recycling as part of its focus on the environment.

“It was really stimulating,” said Lilian Quamina Reddie, World Action Project Worker and Co-ordinator of  I Love the World. “It was great to see the way in which everyone readily grasped the concept of Cocapina and joined in wholeheartedly. There was so much available to participate in, which included Pantastic, the Steel band voyage of discovery, Drum and Dance with Efiba Arts, the I Love the World Expo, which highlighted Sacred Lotus, Traidcraft and Fruitamazin’s sumptuous cocktails.

drummer handsWhat was particularly wonderful was the superb eye, heart and globe made in the Transformative Art workshop, run by the Greater Manchester Play Resources Unit. Many young people united to produce the creative pieces, which was showcased in Sunday Worship.” Ripton Duncan, a World Action volunteer said, “It was truly worthwhile, seeing young people being so creative and having so much fun.”
