Don'ts

• Do not boss the young people around
• Do not jump in when progress slows
• Do not interrupt young people’s discussions
• Do not impose your ideas on the group
• Never tell the group they cannot do something

Do's

• Let go of the reins
• Support the group at all stages of the project
• Encourage young people to use you as a resource
• Be prepared to sustain a high level of patience
• Help them to identify barriers and legal restraints that they may need to overcome
• Make information and resources available to the group
• Make sure you have made the group aware of the resources you have available for them
• Make use of your resources e.g. other youth workers, MAYC participation worker, local authority youth service.
