A WORLD ON THE MOVE
Sunday 9th September 2007
Racial Justice Sunday (RJS), a Methodist Church initiative, is now celebrated ecumenically throughout Britain and Ireland. This Sunday is an opportunity for the church to focus their worship, prayer and action on racial justice.
"Go to a land I will show you!"
(Genesis 12:1)
As this year marks the 1807 Abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade Act, a Racial Justice Sunday Pack has been prepared under the theme: A World on the Move. The Pack contains biblical reflections, examples of faith-based racial justice work, prayers and worship suggestions, ideas for children and young people, practical ways of getting involved - and much more.
By observing Racial Justice Sunday we aim:
· to raise awareness and deepen understanding of the diversity of culture
and experience both in society and in the Church
· to become more inclusive, outward-looking and welcoming
· to raise money for the work of racial justice through the
Racial Justice Fund
· to encourage all Christians to tackle injustice, not ignore it.
